The founders had a strong vision for how they wanted the brand to feel.
Natural. Earthy. Spiritual. Nurturing.
At the same time, they wanted to avoid some of the more predictable visual cues associated with the wellness industry, particularly the lotus imagery commonly used by yoga and holistic brands.
The identity needed to feel connected to nature and motherhood without becoming overly literal.
We helped them:
Rather than starting with the obvious symbols associated with pregnancy or yoga, we explored the idea of growth.
The tree became an important source of inspiration.
Its roots represent foundation and connection. Its branches represent growth and transformation. And its organic shape gave us a way to subtly reference a baby growing within the womb without relying on a literal illustration of pregnancy.
The result brings together several layers of the Doula School story: nature, growth, motherhood, connection, and new beginnings.
The founders wanted the logo to have a sense of significance beyond simply identifying the company.
Because Doula School would be educating and certifying doulas, the identity needed to work on the credentials students would eventually earn.
That inspired the circular, integrated form of the logo.
Designed to feel almost like a seal, badge, or stamp, the mark can stand on its own across certificates and educational materials, giving graduates something recognizable that represents the training they have completed.
This gave the identity a sense of establishment and credibility while still maintaining the organic, nurturing feeling the founders wanted.
Place also played an important role in establishing the visual direction.
Based in California, the founders wanted the brand to reflect the natural environments that surrounded and inspired them.
We developed an earthy palette influenced by the greens of the forest and blues of the ocean, creating a visual identity that feels calm, grounded, and connected to nature.
Combined with the organic logo form, the palette reinforces the spiritual and holistic qualities of the brand without falling into the more expected aesthetic of the yoga industry.
One of the most important jobs of the identity was to make the partnership itself feel natural.
Doula care and yoga may be different disciplines, but both can play a role in supporting women through pregnancy, birth, physical wellbeing, and significant life transitions.
The new brand gave the founders a visual language that could comfortably exist between those worlds while establishing Doula School as something entirely its own.
We helped turn the founders' shared vision into a brand with symbolism at every level.
From the tree-inspired representation of growth and new life to the seal-like structure, spiritual undertones, and California-inspired colour palette, each element was intentionally connected to what Doula School represents.
The result is an identity that feels earthy, established, nurturing, and meaningful, designed not only to represent the school, but to become a mark its future graduates can carry with them.
