Challenge
Doula School International approached us when they were in the process of acquiring another doula certification company and wanted to mark the occasion by rebranding. They wanted the new brand to be new, fresh, and young without incorporating stereotypical female anatomy imagery and colours. They wanted a brand that would resonate with their 25-year female target audience and appeal to their other interests such as nature, travel, yoga, and wellness.
Solution
Through the Storybrand exercise, we were able to gather insights into the target audience and used these insights to put together mood boards with imagery, fonts, colours, and logo concepts. Through there we were able to refine designs that accomplish this new logo; The hexagon is one of the most powerful shapes in art — six is the number of creation, and perfection, symbolizing power, majesty, wisdom, love, mercy, and justice. The shape is more geometric to target a look of strength and professionalism. A mother bird protects its nest, often putting its wings around its babies. A mother also protects a baby by putting her arms around it. A tree symbolizes growth and new beginnings, a seed or a tree can be used to illustrate the new life that is brought into the world with the help of a doula. The stages of a tree’s growth could also represent the stages of training that the doulas go through at the school. There are 3 pairs of elements surrounding the outside, illustrating the bond created between the doula, mother, and child. The elements on the outer layer look like interlocking feathers of wings that surround the inner parts.
